Weekends are different for most of us. Even if we arise at the same time, life is a little less hurried, a little more relaxed. On Weekend Edition Sunday, Liane Hansen welcomes the ever-popular puzzlemaster Will Shortz of the New York Times. She also presents a collage of “voices in the news” and stimulating conversations with NPR commentators and essayists. And musicians of interest to Liane make occasional appearances as well.
And on Saturday, NPR's Peabody Award-winning correspondent Scott Simon brings a well-traveled perspective to his role as host of Weekend Edition Saturday, with stories from civil wars in Bosnia and El Salvador, to hospital rooms, police stations and America's backyards.
