Civic Orchestra of Chicago
Mondays, 11am
Program Website: n/a
Welcome to a new series of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago: an ensemble that’s been affiliated with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra ever since it was founded in 1919 by Frederick Stock, then music director of the CSO.
A signature initiative of the CSO’s Institute for Learning, Access and Training, the Civic Orchestra’s purpose, now as in 1919, is to provide talented musicians on the verge of professional careers the unparalleled performance experience as orchestral players. Under the guidance of Principal Conductor Cliff Colnot, the Civic Orchestra program features in-depth study of orchestral repertoire, sectionals and chamber coaching with musicians from the CSO, and critically acclaimed performances with world-renowned guest conductors during their engagements with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
The Civic gives concerts in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, and in other parts of the metropolitan area; its members also give chamber concerts, and all these performances are free of charge to the greater Chicago community.
Over the years, many Civic members have gone on to distinguished careers in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as all the major orchestras of the United States and throughout the world.
